We on the contemplative path have a tendency to remember our wonderful experiences, and try to duplicate them in the present moment. This obstructs our true experience of the moment, which of course is what we really want. There are no magic words like “be here now” or “be in this moment.” You have to actually do it, with practice. Breathe, check in with the body, find where the mind is… allow thoughts to drop (compassionately!), then rest in now, in its detail – not just as “now” or “the moment” or even some remembrance of what it’s supposed to feel like. Then relax… and here you are. |
