Jay Michaelson is a writer and teacher of Jewish spirituality and mysticism.   He has taught Kabbalah at Yale University, Easton Mountain, the Limmud Conference, the Skirball Center in New York, City College, the Burning Man festival, Elat Chayyim, Makor, and many other institutions. He brings to his teaching both his own contemplative practice (he completed a 40-day silent retreat in fall, 2004, and is a graduate of Rabbi David Cooper's Jewish Meditation Advanced Training program) and an academic background (with an M.A. in Religious Studies from Hebrew University, where he studied with Moshe Idel, Rachel Elior, Daniel Boyarin, and others).

Jay is a leading teacher of Integral Judaism, which recognizes the importance of uniting different aspects of the individual, community, world traditions, and disciplines. In addition to Embodied Judaism and Embodied Kabbalah, Jay has led retreats on encounterng the Divine in nature, facilitated meditation and spirituality workshops, and co-taught embodied spirituality workshops in many different traditions and contexts.

In addition to his teaching, Jay is a prolific writer whose works include Sitting with God: Meditation, Kabbalah and the Bible's Most Powerful Psalm, The Inflected Letters: Stories of Faith and Desire, and many articles in The Forward; Zeek Magazine, which he co-edits; The Jerusalem Post; and other publications.
